Associate Engineering Manager

About the role

The Associate Engineering Manager will lead one to two engineering teams of 6‑15 members, overseeing delivery, people development and engineering standards while staying technically hands‑on. The role sits within a high‑growth international technology business focused on social gaming and digital entertainment, where AI‑driven practices are embedded throughout the development lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Own delivery across 1–2 engineering teams, identify risks and remove blockers.
• Support team members through 1‑to‑1s, development planning and performance management.
• Maintain strong engineering standards across backend, frontend, mobile and QA.
• Spend roughly 30% of time hands‑on, contributing code and reviewing pull requests.
• Collaborate closely with Team Leads and Product Managers to drive feature delivery.
• Participate in incident management, root‑cause analysis and platform reliability initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong software development background, preferably with Java and distributed systems experience.
• Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Team Lead or similar leadership role.
• Interest in or early experience of people management.
• Proven delivery and problem‑solving abilities.
• Good understanding of product and engineering requirements.
• Excellent English communication skills.
