About the role
The Mechanical Lead reports to the MEP Lead and works closely with the Project Director and Engineering Management Team to deliver mechanical systems across large, complex projects. The role provides both technical and managerial leadership, ensuring design, installation, testing and commissioning meet specifications, programme, budget and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical function, overseeing HVAC, utilities, process piping and specialist systems to align with programme, cost, safety and quality targets.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers, supervisors and subcontractors, reviewing and approving design documents, sub‑mittals and material selections.
- Ensure compliance with client specifications, standards (GMP, ISO, ASHRAE, CIBSE) and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee FATs, MEP construction, SATs, commissioning and system turnover, supporting validation and hand‑over activities.
- Drive health, safety and environmental policies, implement QA/QC processes and manage technical and delivery risks.
- Act as primary contact for clients, consultants and authorities, coordinating with electrical, civil and architectural teams and leading mechanical coordination meetings.
Required profile
- Strong technical expertise in mechanical systems, including HVAC, utilities and process installations.
- Proven leadership delivering mechanical works on large, complex construction or engineering projects.
- Excellent organisational, planning and problem‑solving abilities with effective communication across disciplines.
- Solid understanding of health, safety and environmental standards in construction and engineering.
- Familiarity with commissioning, validation and system turnover in regulated sectors.
