Head of Financial Crime Prevention & MLRO

About the role

We are seeking a senior professional to lead our Financial Crime Prevention function and act as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for a growing banking operation. The role will oversee the dedicated team, ensure compliance with Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) requirements and drive the development of robust AML, CFT and fraud controls.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the regulated MLRO, subject to GFSC approval.
• Manage and resource the Financial Crime Prevention team, allocating workload and ensuring SLA compliance.
• Lead performance management through competency frameworks, QA and training plans.
• Test, tune and calibrate rule sets and thresholds for transaction monitoring systems.
• Maintain comprehensive department procedures and records meeting regulatory standards.
• Oversee fraud, AML, CFT and PF frameworks, preparing mandatory and supplementary reports.
• Participate in risk analysis for new products, services and jurisdictions.
• Provide senior management with information and metrics to measure and manage financial crime risk.

Required profile

• Proven senior experience in financial crime prevention, preferably within banking or financial services.
• In‑depth knowledge of AML, CFT, PF regulations and the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission’s control framework.
• Strong familiarity with AML and fraud monitoring applications and data analysis.
• Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines and deliver high‑quality oversight.
• Demonstrated managerial experience leading a team in a banking or payments environment.
